On June 22, a new slab of wax by Hellvete will see the light of day. This time it is a split 10″ with Luster, released by Morc Records and pressed on high quality vinyl, on an edition of 130.

This is what the label has to say about it:

“on one side, we have Hellvete – the belgian dronemaster that impressed us with an ongoing series of longform drones, mostly based on one instrument. here, the central role is reserved for the organ. should please everyone who is interested in monolithic soundsculptures. impressive, straightforward and mindcleaning.

the other side is reserved for the debut of Luster – a collective of musicians from ghent,, with cao Annelies Monseré and members of Edgar Wappenhalter, Joe Speeboat and Mote.On this ep, their track is a long version of the traditional ‘are you going to leave me’. expect a fuzzy, warm and doomy take on this classic.”

You can preview and/or order the record straight from Bandcamp.

To celebrate this release, Morc Records and Į.vorėn T.øręn joined forces to put on an evening on June 22 at “In De De Ruimte” in Ghent where Luster and myself will present this new release to the world. The great people of Pandelindio and Bird People are also invited to throw in some extra bliss! And for the occasion, “Danspassen Uit Mariakerke” will put on their dancing shoes to infuse my show with some extra movement. Siked! I’m up first, so be on time!

Summer is coming up, so it’s time to go outside again and celebrate all the good things in life with a bunch of music!

I’ll be teaming up Jürgen De Blonde and Lieven Martens Moana to provide a soundtrack for the Dreamachines of Thomas Betsens at the epic IN DREAMS event curated by Phillipe Cortens.

Second I’ll be presenting a new split 10″ together with Luster (a new six headed beast with Annelies Monseré and members of Joe Speedboat) at my favo Ghent venue “In De Ruimte“. Super happy that my good pall Bird People and the magnificent Argentina based drone maestros Pandelindio will also be present. Big thanks to Morc Tapes for making this happen and for releasing the 10″!

After that I’ll be heading to the Netherlands to play the Midzomerdrone festival where I’m happy to be sharing the bill with Broeder Dieleman and a bunch of other Dutch drone heads. The show will be held in an old meat-market in which a single sound reverberates for 8 seconds. Who needs effects…

A couple of days later Brahmen Raag will be opening for Common Eider, King Elder and Gabriel Saloman (ex-Yellow Swans) in Antwerp. And to top things off I’m super happy that KRAAK invited me to play a show in Berlin as part of a KRAAK curated evening in Ausland together with Lieven Martens Moana and Razen.

Hope to see you along the road!

I just got the news that the new Hellvete / Bear Bpnes, Lay Low split-tape on Oaken Palace is ready to ship! Super siked about sharing an other release with Mr. Gonzalez, who also made the artwork! He came up with one of his best tracks for this one! Only 100 copies and going fast! Get your copy here!

“100 cassettes with gold-metallic inners, housed in special folded cases made from 100% recycled card. Comes with a free download code.

Glen Steenkiste aka Hellvete and Ernesto González aka Bear Bones, Lay Low, both founding members of the legendary Psych-collective Sylvester Anfang II, come together once again to create an album that makes their individual styles shine bright without ever neglecting their shared musical roots. Hellvete contributes two swirling, dreamy, and minimalist drones that flow smoothly and comforting, inviting the listener to just dream away and become absorbed in the sustained tones. Switch sides, and you will find quite a different contribution by Bear Bones, Lay Low – an epic synth journey that takes you deep into the jungle of your own mind and will make it difficult for you to keep your legs still. Just surrender to the mystical rhythms and keep on walking ever deeper into the unknown!

As a homage to La Monte Young, Hellvete and Bear Bones, Lay Low dedicate their release to the critically endangered Radiated tortoise, which is on its way to extinction due to habitat loss, being poached for food, and being over-exploited in the pet trade. We are currently searching for an organization to receive the donations.

Siked to be able to announce that makrame records just dropped some new Hellvete sounds. I’m happy to be sharing a tape with the fabulous Woven Skull, who’s performance together with Core Of The Coleman at Tor Ist Das Festival was one of the best shows I’ve seen last year! My side is called “Oude Tijden”, which refers to the fact that the music on this tape was recorded between 2011 and 2015, so it features some more “old school” Hellvete stuff. Woven Skull’s side is called “Hail to All Moving Things” and it’s  a great mix between vintage Woven Skull jams and their own take on a gamelan set. Moving and uplifting! The artwork is done by Johannes  Schebler, who did a great job, like always!!! All hail to Aritza for making this release happen and for putting in the effort! It’s highly appreciated!!!

The tape is limited to 40 copies and you can order your copy via the makrame records bandcamp website. Also available in digital format.

Hellvete – Ode

March 1, 2014

Super happy to announce that the new Hellvete album, titled “Ode”, is out now on Deep Distance.

Many thanks to Dom for making this happen and to Ivan for the gorgeous artwork.

Eternal love to Evy for standing the day in and day out rumble coming out of the Sint-Denijs HQ.

Hellvete – “Ode”

Deep Distance is releasing the new LP from Glen Steenkiste‘s HELLVETE project. Arguably best known as one of the founding members of Belgian collective; the incredible Sylvester Anfang and it‘s SAII recent incarnation. “Ode“ is his third LP following previous, always amazing, sold out cassettes, cdrs and wax on labels as diverse as Kraak, Sloow Tapes, Funeral Folk, Blackest Rainbow and SicSic tapes to name but a few.

“Ode“ continues Glen‘s recent slant towards longer compositional pieces with 2 sidelong drones, which in his own words “document the ongoing search for sustained notes, flickering overtones and blissful environments”.

Recorded prior to his last LP “ Sint-Denijs” in 2011 and is “in praise to all things that bring and inspire great joy. A quest for focus in an impulse overloaded age. Like a weaver combining all the yarns into one delicate woven lace”.

A beautiful LP on both the ear and the eye- wonderful sleeve art and an edition of 300 only on ultra clear vinyl. Expected to move fast, as per previous output for label and artist.

Hellvete / Jake Blanchard

Split Cassette

Hellvete is Glen Steenkiste (Gonzalez & Steenkiste, Sylvester Anfang), here we have 3 distinctly different tracks, ranging from delicate percussion, zoned out drones and banjo plucking. It’s impossible not to get lost in this music, long tracks of sustained drones with subtle textures and layers building and fading.

This is the second release from Jake after his debut on Feathered Coyote. Often using hand made instruments Jake weaves blissful drones with primitve rhythm and melody at times harmonious and euphoric giving way to distorted and dissonant.

Limited to only 75 copies with artwork by Jake Blanchard on pro-dubbed cassettes.

HELLVETE – SINT-DENIJS

*** ORDER – 180 GRAM ULTRA CLEAR VINYL EDITION (LIMITED TO 200) – INCLUDES INSTANT DOWNLOAD – SHIPS LATE JUNE 2013 ***

“Brand new record from Glen Steenkiste, founding member of Silvester Anfang and their more recent incarnation Sylvester Anfang II. Currently Glen is also frequently collaborating with his fellow Anfang member, Ernesto Gonzalez (aka Bear Bones Lay Low) in their free-drone project Gonzalez & Steenkiste. But whilst being active in these projects he still finds time to craft his own music. “Sint-Denijs” is his second solo full length vinyl release following his “De Gek” lp for Kraak Records from 2010, and several great cassette and CDR releases for fantastic labels like Funeral Folk, Sloow Tapes, Audiobot, Crooked Tapes and SicSic Tapes. Since his previous record on Kraak, Steenkiste has been getting more and more interested in sustained tones, foreign melodies and longer compositions. On this new record he draws influences from early Minimalism and old folk music and with the use of harmonium, bowed banjo, electric tampura and analog synth he creates probing intense sounds that try to undo notions of time and place. Steenkiste’s music is like taking an endless shower of sunbeams, warm, comforting and mind-altering. Music that makes time stand still and focuses on shifting details and textures, but massive in sound and presence. This record is pressed in an edition of 500 copies on 180 gram virgin vinyl including a digital download coupon or instant download when bought from Blackest Rainbow’s Bandcamp. 200 copies are on ultra clear vinyl, 300 on black. Ultra clear copies are available to people who preorder direct from Blackest Rainbow, and some copies will be randomly distributed to shops.”
