Last Wednesday I presented the “Droomharmonium” double cd to the “world” with an all acoustic version in front of a very nice audience in my hometown of Ghent. For those of you who missed out and still want a taste of it, some friends did the effort of filming it. So thanks to them you can still zone out… in front of your computer… gazing into the light…

” To call these four long form pieces “beautiful” would be an understatement; they are something far beyond that.” – Noise Not Music

On May 23, 2018 “Droomharmonium” saw the light of day. Conceived and first performed in 2012, I’ve been revisiting this piece numerous times throughout the years up until this day. I recorded uncountable versions and I played it live a couple of dozen times. After all those years I’m still intrigued by how this track still seems to write itself, how every version is different from the previous one, how the reeds of the harmonium can sing so beautifully together, how the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

“Droomharmonium” is a document of that ongoing composition. A document that shows how something can change trough time, but still hold its core. A document of the search for the unlimited possibilities of a handful of notes and their flickering overtones. Four tracks. 101 minutes in total. Two cd’s housed in a full colour spined sleeve, like a mini lp jacket, with screenprinted inner sleeves. Recorded at home in Sint-Denijs between 2013 and 2017.

Many thanks to Morc Tapes for giving me the opportunity to release this selection of “Droomharmonium” recordings in an official way. Thanks to Michael Anderson for the great mastering job and for making these pieces shine in all their details. And most important, eternal love to my wife and son for keeping up with the continuous stream of buzzing and humming I fill the house with. Without you this wouldn’t be possible.

You can listen to the album and order a copy at the Morc Records store.

This is for the dreamers…

I hope will enjoy!

You can listen to “Droomharmonium”, as performed at the “Sola Gratia” event at the Jospeh Reylandtzaal in Bruges on November 11, 2016 by clicking below. Big thank you to the Alter Ego crew for organizing the evening, CHVE and Syndrome for the music, Silken Tofu for the sounds and vibes in between, Consouling Sound for handling the merch, Dehn Sora for the art and all the people who came by to sit down and listen and make this evening into a good one! This one is for the people who couldn’t attend. A tribute to silence and compassion.

Hellvete - Puik III
Today, exactly 10 years ago, on 5 Feb 2006, I played my first Hellvete solo show at the legendary Freaks End Future record shop in Antwerp, opening for No Blues Steen (rip), Dan Decalut, and Gart & Seekatze. The shop, ran by music guru Carlo Steegen, was at the time the centre of the Belgian and the world wide underground scene. A truely inspiring place who’s support for local and international underground acts was beyond! All hail to Carlo for supporting my early musical endeavors by offering me a place to play live and even releasing some of the earliest Hellvete stuff on his Audiobot label! Efforts like that is what keeps it going!

The recording of the show was made by Jelle Crama on a handheld cassette recorder and later released on his own “bootleg” label PUIK, describe by himself as “a little label i started to regularly release live shows and retarded situations + local bands. packaging is done way simpler and quicker than what i do for my DRAMA label. if theres only a number on the packaging, then its a bootleg from a show i went to, first tapes contain shows of can’t, fat worm of error, mouthus, hellvete… these bootlegs mainly are totaly raw unedited tapes with sometimes annoying sounds from people at, going to or leaving the show.”  Thanks to Jelle for archiving this years back!

And now it’s here for you to grab… if you’re interested… and want to go back into the future… where you discover that not much has changed but little has stayed the same…

In the meantime…

Eiderdown Records Bandcamp

September 16, 2013

Eiderdown Records just made their complete catalog available on bandcamp. “Stuffed With The Down Of The Eider” by Gonzalez & Steenkiste and the split-tape by A Story Of Rats and Hellvete are both up there for a free stream or a $5 download (you can pay more if you really want…).

In 2012 I made a soundtrack for hand-made Dreammachine. It was released by Taping Policies as a web only release and it went with a video by Jef Mertens. Now the soundtrack is up for grabs at the Dreamachine SoundCloud. Thanks to John Smoke! Gaze into the light!
